    Responsibilities

     

    Duties of the Youth Prevention Specialist include, but are not limited to outreach, youth development, policy change, delivering presentations, training, community organizing, capacity building and having a basic understanding of data analysis. The primary role of the Prevention Specialist will be to deliver life skills curricula to program participants. The Prevention Specialist is responsible for conducting outreach activities to recruit youth to participate in the program, as well as activities to retain youth involvement in the program.  This position also requires data collection in the form of collecting required demographics and administering and collecting pre/post tests based on the curricula and entering pre/post test responses into the data base.  The Prevention Specialist will also be responsible for fostering the leadership development of youth participants and providing community referrals as needed. The Prevention Specialist will perform other duties as required.

     

    • Identify locations to host program activities
    • Conduct outreach activities to recruit and retain youth participants.
    • Complete minimum number of participants per contractual requirements
    • Collect and maintain pre/post/test.    
    • Complete program reports per contractual requirements
    • Attends trainings and meetings as required
    • Accurately and promptly input all data entry necessities.
    • Completes other duties as assigned

     

    Qualifications

     

    • 21 years of age or older
    • BHT or able to meet requirement with a combination of education and prevention work experience
    • Knowledge of science-based prevention models including the risk and protective factors and the community mobilization framework
    • Experience in working with high risk youth populations and community members
    • Knowledge of behavioral health managed care principles and practices
    • Knowledge in utilization of personal computer
    • Able to become CPR/First Aid Certified
    • Able to become fingerprint certified in accordance with Arizona Department of Public Safety requirements
    • Ability to interact well verbally to the general public by portraying critical thinking and communicating a positive attitude
    • Flexibility and ability to work evenings and weekends if the Program Manager deems it necessary to achieve the objectives of the program
    • Willing to work with all cultures and sub-cultures that comprise the population of Maricopa County in a non-judgmental and value clear manner
    • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish required
    • Must have valid Arizona driver’s license, be 21 years of age with minimum 3 years driving experience, and meet requirements of Terros Health’s driving policy.
